Saskaloppet Event Details Print

All trails will be groomed for skating and classic skiing. Checkpoints are located every four to nine kilometers and have radio contact, first aid, toilets, beverages, food, a campfire and friendly volunteers. There will be awards for the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place skiers in each age category and event, except for the Jackrabbit Glide, which provides an award for each young skier.

Don't know what to try? The Don Allen Saskaloppet includes 5 km, 8 km, 13 km, 20 km, 35 km, and 55 km events as well as the 84 km Kupesewin events. Good conditioning is important, but you don't have to be an expert skier to enjoy the Saskaloppet. Choose the event to match your skills:

  • 5 km AREVA Jackrabbit Glide: 10 a.m. Saturday March 2nd
Even the youngest skiers can take part in the fun and excitement of the Saskaloppet with our mascot, Ragnar the Raven. Hot dogs and drinks at the halfway mark make a nice break for the young champions and their chaperones.

  • 8 km Conexus Lake Challenge: 10 a.m. Saturday March 2nd
Skiers wanting to see just a bit more of Lac La Ronge can sign up for the Lake Challenge. After skiing down to Peanut Grove for hotdogs and drinks, skiers will retrace their route and go back across the lake ice to reach the finish line.
  • 13 km Precambrian Passage: 10 a.m. Saturday March 2nd
Novice loppeters or those out for a shorter day will enjoy this tour through the boreal forest to Checkpoint 1 and back.
  • 20 km Northerner Challenge: 10 a.m. Saturday March 2nd
Anticipate a relaxing day or test your stamina and speed out to Checkpoint 2 and back.

  • 35 km NRT Raven’s Tradition: 10 a.m. Saturday March 2nd
Test yourself on the moderately challenging section of the Saskaloppet Trails, with ravens as your guide.
  • 55 km Enduro: 8:30 a.m. Saturday March 2nd
Go the distance to the Don Allen Trails for a ski through Stonehenge and to catch the view from the Summit.
  • 84 km Kupesewin Marathon and Sasquatch: 12:30 p.m. Friday March 1st
Head off for two days of adventure on Friday, spend the night on the Summit, then ski back to La Ronge for a hero’s welcome. Note the requirements for this event. The Kupesewin Marathon and Saskquatch events are limited to the first 25 skiers.

All events start on the ice across from the La Ronge Hotel and Suites.
