CLASS LOGISTICS
*Classes are every Sunday from 2-3 at Don Allen Trails.
🐰 Bunnyrabbits Class
-
Lessons run approximately 45 mins. which is usually divided between 30 minutes of formal "instruction"/games and 15+ mins of free time.
-
Parents MUST stay with their child during the lesson.
-
Parents are highly encouraged to be on skis but if you don't have a pair, and only have boots, that's ok. Adult skis can be borrowed from CCHS.
-
NO POLES are used in Bunnyrabbits, so please do not bring any.
🐇 Jackrabbits Class
-
Lessons run approximately 1 hour, which usually includes some free ski time.
-
You are welcome to learn how to ski with your child in Jackrabbits too!
-
Jackrabbits Level 1-2 don't use poles a lot but they will in Level 3-4.
⏲️ When to leave your house: 1:30 is a good goal time to leave your house so that lessons can start on time. I like to start lessons by 5 mins after the lesson start time at the latest. It always takes a bit of extra time to bundle up kids and skiis, so make sure to give yourself some extra time to get ready, including putting (wrangling) on skiis on when you arrive at Don Allen.
✅ 🧦 Socks: put a fresh pair of warm socks on your child before you leave. That tiny bit of moisture from running around all morning makes a difference between cold and warm feet.
☕ 🍪 Cookies, hot chocolate, and socializing: cookies and hot chocolate are free at the end of each lesson. Feel free to socialize and family ski after the lesson.
🥶 Cold Weather policy: cut-off is -23C with windchill. If you don't see a cancellation in the TeamLinkt app, classes are on (see Communication section below). I highly recommend buying a box of hot paws and bring a pair in your pocket to every lesson, even on days you think are warm.
That being said, kids should have fun skiing, so if you feel it is too cold for your child to enjoy themselves, even though class hasn't been cancelled, don't feel pressure to attend. If they only attend 1 warm class then they will have warm memories of skiing, not cold and miserable memories of skiing!
CLASS COMMUNICATION
TeamLinkt app is the primary tool used to communicate the lesson schedule, including any cancellations and updates. This introductory email is the only exception.

If you have any questions during the season, you are encouraged to use the chat option in the app. Updates are not posted on Facebook or email. The club chose this app because it is the same app used for minor hockey and the ski race team and it greatly simplifies notification administration for the coaches. The app is available on mobile and desktop. You can play with the notification settings to suit your preferences. If you have any questions on how to use the app, please let the Jackrabbit coordinator know.
PARENT HELP REQUIRED
☕ 🍪 Parents are in charge of cookies and hot chocolate duty. Snack logistics will be posted in the TeamLinkt app.
🔥 It is up to parents to start a fire in the woodstove. Please arrive a few minutes early to start the fire so that the chalet has time to warm up. There is wood, kindling, a lighter, shovel and ax (if needed) at the chalet. If you have extra kindling at home to keep the stash stocked up, that would be great too. If the ax is dull, lighter missing, etc., it is up to the parents to figure out how to keep the fire goin'.
❄️ If it snows, the deck needs to be shoveled as well.
✔️ Loaner ski coordinator: if you would like to be the "loaner ski coordinator" at the end of this season/next season, please let me know. Basically, organize the skis going out and make sure they come back at the end of the season and arrange for equipment maintenance such as cleaning and waxing (you don't have to do wax/clean yourself necessarily, just arrange for it). Skis are stored at the Wildfire Cache in a sea can owned by the ski club.
FAMILY SKI OPPORTUNITIES
We highly encourage families to get out and ski with your child as often as possible outside of lessons. Skiers are also encouraged to register for local races and the Saskaloppet. Enjoy the outdoors and time well spent as a family!
